No let’s not fight, provoke, or clickbait people. That’s so rude and American, and Dutch. But now to the point, Austria got indie! And it’s really good, echt, really good. We had no idea it was this good. Y’all heard of Lamila & Bilderbuch? Ne? Sodl, Ghost Ambulance? Njet? You will now. Peak Indie!!
Let’s start with Lamila–Papa got a motorbike, because that’s as good as any place to start. No it’s not, jawohl ganz sicher. You get it by now, right? If not, you will, not. Oppenheimers main message aside, Lamila did a thing here that deals with one of those big life events in the best possible way. They did not leave the experience on a shelf, it got processed and dealt with. And its very immersive, you can feel it. You’re in the room, listening to the call. And if it’s just about a motorcycle as a literal and figurative vehicle to being reckless and free; all be damned!!! Then- well, then it’s really poor marketing. π .
Bilderbuch – Europa 22
What if Pink Floyd did indie? Well, they did by today’s standards. Obvious things aside, Bilderbuch does this neck of the woods justice. What’s the song about? You decide, the lyrics are open and will go go any way if you’ve the mind for it. But they do invest nine minutes in a fiction about non-fiction and call it Europa 22, where you best keep your eyes open, they say, but also maybe don’t if you can afford it? All very meta, true gold for one prone to thinking or knowing or examining whether they can think on their own and have an option to “not”. Glory to the infinite.
Look, just…. LED go, book yourself a trip to Nahuel Huapi and leave politics to politicians. With love from Europa 25, by Europa 21.
Ghost Ambulance – Juno
Now here’s relief. Love. Just.Love. Young & Pure.
Love.
We love it. We’re down.
Schluss.
Sodl – Sage Cigarettes
Ah, as tempted as we were to indulge in wordplay and innuendo here, it’s a hard pass. Enjoy.
Tauchen – Eis
Well, Tauchen basically invites you to play with words. Diving – Ice. Allright, ice-diving. But not that one, right? The other one, with cream and sugar? Not ashamed to admit we didn’t quite understand what the song is about because we couldn’t find the full lyrics. But when someone sings midden von die sonne is das beste so compellingly, we hear it. Unless of course, we misheard it. And we’d love to really dive into it (jawel, bewust), but when “weil ich habe gar so viel zeit, alles ist easy, alles ist nice” doesn’t hold true, you might as well settle for diving-ice, and a vibe that feels like a hug- with a cheeky little bite.
