The hottest sample on the list, "Aitch, Luciano - Baddies" brings the vibe for EURO 2024. I wish the sample cut through the vocals cleaner in the verses, especially with Luciano upping the heat. My goosebumps don't give a fuck tho'.
How often do you take the time to explore new music, and especially, music from other countries in Europe? @ AIBM_EU, weekly. In fact we make it a priority. It canโt be contained, an appetite for all things new, perpetual curiousity. But by now, there’s a sense of purpose to it as well.
First of all, “A shot for Europe” is curated by a human. There’s no label pushing numbers, no sophisticated algorhythm. Just a curators appetite. Furthermore, many listed songs are performed in a different Eurolanguage. Refreshing and useful, like mental dental floss (shoutout U.D.S. <3 ). The reason to make a point of this is obvious but underappreciated. Language is a barrier in many ways and for some it is a barrier in exploring new music. Fuck that, right? Here’s the list.
A taste of week 24
And here’s a taste straight up, starting with the hottest sample on the list, “Aitch, Luciano – Baddies” brings the vibe for EURO 2024. We wish the sample cut through the vocals cleaner in the verses, especially with Luciano upping the heat. Our goosebumps don’t give a fuck tho’.
A rave with a trace of Dolores O’Riordan and a percussive roll that would go down in any city of God, “Aurora – starvation” .. for our daily bread has been baked and shared scarcely of late.
Refined, sexy, and clearly …guilty. Angelina Mango is perhaps better known for her Eurovision entry – Melodrama, or the poppy “Ci pensiamo Domani” (we’ll think about it tomorrow). Melodrama came along with a video so sexy it’s not, but seeing Angelina stuck on repeat in “Uguale a me” ft Marco Mengoni. allows us to hear them better, eh?
And a final taste of the list, wind down with “Kasbo, yet another gem from Sweden. Scandinavia FTW for ever!
On words
There’s a few Eurovision entries in the list this time round, because Eurovision delivers. And let’s leave it at that.. What I want to address though, are words themselves. While playfulness with language, a profound sense of it, mastery of storytelling, weaving meaning and so on… can all be a fantastic aspect of a song- they can also ruin it. Vibe, on the other hand, is undeniableย always. You can train yourself to not hear words when listening to music, if you’re not a champ at it by nature. Just focus on emotion, sonic sophistication, discipline, playfulness, sex, and so on. Don’t look for meaning in words, rather find it in vibe. Allow authenticity take you where it may.
A shot for Europe – Week 24
So, in that spirit, here’s the list again. A selection of 21 tracks from all over Europe. This time round we vibed to Baddies hardest, and cared most for a Greek- Marina Spenau is a solitary voice in Greek charts. Much love for you Marina, you are a queen! Anyway, most track are quite recent, but one is decades old. Which one? Try to guess without looking it up, and let us know below in the comments ๐. Last weeks’ oldie is listed under the playlist, enjoy. If you have comments about how you want us to present the list every week, let us know in the comments too. Make sure you add the list to your favourites if you like.
